Ryan Freitas is the founder and principal strategist at Second Verse, an experience design consultancy in San Francisco, California. Second Verse specializes in combining superior interaction design with compelling product strategy for clients like Small Batch, Hunch, Blekko, and GigaOm.
Prior to Second Verse, Ryan was Director of Experience Design at Adaptive Path. Among other engagements there, he lead the successful redesign of MySpace‘s navigation and home page, which had a dramatic impact on both user satisfaction and ad revenue. At Adaptive Path he also assisted the founders in mentoring practitioners, developing the interaction design practice and communicating about the practice externally via articles and speaking opportunities. Alongside Lane Becker, he developed and ran the New Ventures program, an internal initiative to form services for equity contracts with pre-launch venture-backed startups, including Sphere and Plazes.
Over the course of his consulting career, Ryan has cultivated expertise in streamlining business processes and refining web-based products effectively. He enthusiastically pursues the opportunity to work on emerging user experience principles, and he has a strong interest in informatics, empathic design, and democratizing access to technology. He cures and smokes his own bacon, and lives in San Francisco with his wife Kristen.
